Is Apple Juice Safe for Dogs?
First off, all dogs are different, what may be safe for one dog may not be safe for another dog. However, most fruit juices are not toxic to dogs, but that doesn’t mean they should have them. The majority of shop bought apple juices contain a lot of added sugar, as well as artificial colors and preservatives. Which is never good to give to your dog.
This added sugar can cause your dog to have an upset stomach, diarrhea and in the longer term can lead to obesity and diabetes. Some fruit juices contain sweeteners instead of added sugar, which you may think will then be fine for your dog. However, some sweeteners, such as Xylitol are toxic to dogs and will cause even more harm than the sugar! For these reasons, it is best to avoid shop bought apple juice for dogs completely.
Are Apples Safe for Dogs?
It is fine for dogs to eat small amounts of fresh apples. Apples contain vitamins and nutrients which can benefit your dog and are great as a treat, as long as they are only given to your pooch in moderation and other important guidelines are followed. Check the Ingredients!
If you do choose to give your dog a small amount of apple juice, make sure to check the ingredients don’t contain any grapes or raisins of any kind. Can Dogs Drink Homemade Apple Juice?
Homemade apple juice is fine for dogs as long you remove the pips, as these contain small amounts of cyanide. You may also want to remove the core and skin too. In summer, try freezing some homemade apple juice in an ice cube tray, as a treat for your pup on hot days.
Can Dogs have Apple Juice?
Apple juice is not toxic to dogs and a very small amount will probably not upset their stomach.
Some say that apple juice can help dogs with mild constipation, however, if your dog is constipated, I would advise you to speak with your veterinarian and take their advice.
As I have already mentioned, if you want to give your dog some apples, give them a few bite-sized pieces of fresh apple and give them a bowl of fresh drinking water. Water is the only liquid dogs need to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
It is recommended to seek advice from a veterinarian before giving your dog any new food or juices, no matter how safe you think they may be.
