Remove the stem and always wash strawberries thoroughly and be sure to cut them into small enough pieces that they won’t cause a choking hazard. (Washing them will remove any dirt and any traces of chemicals.)

If your dog is a puppy or a smaller breed of dog, strawberries can be mashed or pureed, then added to their food.

For larger dogs, you may only need to cut a strawberry in half or maybe not at all.

Cutting strawberries up into manageable chunks and freezing can also make a great-tasting summer treat, as dogs love frozen strawberries on hot days.

Things to Remember!

Before giving your dog, any food which is not specifically for dogs, it is always our opinion, you should contact your veterinarian first.

When giving a dog any new food, be sure to give them a small amount to start. Observe them while they try the new food, make sure they like the new food and they don’t have an allergic reaction to the food. If you notice any strange behavior, remove any of the uneaten food and contact your vet straight away.

You shouldn’t give your dog canned strawberries or strawberries in syrup. These have excess sugar and calories. Which then turns a healthy treat into an unhealthy one. These types of strawberries can also contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that can be deadly to your dog.

Although high in nutrients, they do have natural sugars, so be sure to feed them to your dog, in moderation. Too many will likely cause an upset stomach.
